Canapés and Appetizers
The canapé is defined by the Merriam Webster English Dictionary as “an appetizer consisting of a piece of bread or toast or a cracker topped with a savory spread (as caviar or cheese).” In cocktail or tea parties, they are the dainty little sandwiches served on trays. You can eat several in one sitting and still have some space leftover for the main course. They delight the senses as much as they nourish the hungry stomach that has to wait for the main course. Sandwiches in the form of the canapé are one of the best culinary uses of sandwich.

Main Course and Leftovers
While they may not be a heavy weight, most of the time, sandwiches are what we can get our hands on during lunchtime or late in the evening. Sandwiches as the main course can be made more substantial by making the type of sandwich that’s basically a meal in itself — lots of meat in it, large bread, and large serving. Prepare their usual sides, such as French fries, coleslaw, or pasta and your main course is complete. Sandwich as a main course can also be through lunch boxes or eating out in a deli. When there are leftover meats, chicken or poultry, you can transform them into the sandwich — its most popular culinary use.

Sweet Sandwiches
Savory sandwiches may always be the popular type of sandwich. But the sweet sandwiches have a place in the culinary use of sandwiches. Neither a dessert nor a main course, sweet sandwiches offer an extra special meal especially to children and lovers of jellies, preserves, marmalades, peanut butters, nut butters, butter, honey, and most likely anything edible and sweet that you could spread on bread. We could have them for breakfast or tuck them in our kids’ lunchboxes so that they will be reminded of home. You can serve them as is, grill them or chill them — as in the case of ice cream sandwiches and cookie sandwiches. Something really sweet to celebrate.
